Anthony W. “Tony” Stout brings a lifetime of experience to his writing, shaped by service, leadership, education, family, and the unexpected turns that come with a life fully lived.

His career has taken him from enlisted service to commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy, through a second career in federal service, and eventually into higher education as a professor, academic leader, and dean. Along the way, he discovered that some of the most interesting stories are found not in the accomplishments themselves, but in the choices, setbacks, relationships, and moments of reinvention that shape who we become.

Tony’s writing spans fiction, memoir, and practical nonfiction. Whether exploring difficult moral choices through a novel, reflecting on his own unconventional journey, or helping experienced professionals think about what they can do with a lifetime of accumulated knowledge and experience, his work is grounded in a fascination with people, their decisions, and the paths their lives take.

He is currently developing three major writing projects: The Injustice of Compassion, a character-driven novel; From Rags to Enrichment, a memoir about transformation and redefining success; and Subject Matter Expert, a practical nonfiction series for experienced professionals considering what comes next after a successful career. The series explores how subject matter experts can translate decades of professional experience into a second act—beginning with the transition from practitioner to college professor and expanding into other ways experienced professionals can teach, mentor, advise, lead, and put what they know to work in new ways.
